To Do

To do before Logan arrives:

1. Find a baby sitter/nursery (Anyone want to quit their job and take up child care?)

2. Find a pediatrician that will be awesome for Logan and that is covered on my insurance

3. Finish decorating his room and hanging up baby clothes

4. Clean out little closets in his room

5. Somehow get some Christmas shopping done in the midst of baby preparations and back pain

6. Buy a breast pump, get reimbursed for 80 percent of the cost from insurance (awesome!) and get HR at work to find me a place to pump once I come back

7. Pack the hospital bag

8. Clean my house from top to bottom

9. Psych myself up for delivery and not freak out about it

10. Start a college fund for the little guy

What I really want to do:

1. Sleep

2. Sleep on my stomach again

3. Sleep with Logan in the bassinet beside me, Chris next to me and Sadie and Jewels in their respective beds...

Did I mention I would love to sleep?

Aw, Meaghan!! I hope you do get some sleep among other things. I hope you are doing well!!

I don't know how soon that sleep thing will come, but at least you'll be able to LAY on your stomach soon! And maybe sleep for a few minutes between Logan being hungry :) Not much longer!

Oh, and the Internet is your Christmas shopping friend. I know I live in New York and all, but you won't catch me going out in those crowds.

We'll be sure to squeeze in some sleep. He won't protest if the house isn't spotless.

If you're really missing sleeping on your stomach, you might consider adding one more thing to the list:

massage. They make tables with the belly cut out so that you can be on your stomach. Plus, with the sore back, it couldn't hurt.

Good luck with the list.

Too bad you don't live close to us. We have a fantastic pediatrician. The funny thing is that when she was deciding where to set up her practice she was choosing between your town and mine. She has no family here so I have no freaking idea why she came here. We also have a really good babysitter.

And sorry about that sleep thing. It doesn't get any better after the bundle of joy gets here. You'll probably have a couple of months of feedings every two hours followed by a gradual extension in nighttime feedings after that. For us it was two months of every other hour. Another month of every three hours and then one middle-of-the-night feeding until he was about 10 months. She mostly sleeps through the night now unless he's not feeling good.

Kim and I were lucky and he was born just before the summer break. We were able to shift our sleep pattern to his for two months. Lots of midday naps.

And that reimbursement for the breast pump is nice. Kim wanted that really nice one, but we couldn't afford it. Instead, we got a free one (good model, but not top of the line) from the local health department. We just had to return it at the end of the first year.

Good luck with all that. And I agree with Stephanie: The Internet is your friend for Christmas shopping. Hello, Amazon!

I'm volunteering Chris to go ahead and handle 3, 4, and 8 on his own. He can probably get most of the rest of them, too, allowing you to sleep a little more.

Not that he's not already doing all he can, I'm sure.

And that not sleeping on your stomach thing: I never thought about it, but ouch. That's part of my regular sleeping rotation.

Nicole: Actually, overall I'm doing really well. Apparently a lot of pregnant women have it way worse than I do.

Steph: I had considered the internet for shopping - never done a bunch of that in the past but it may be time to start.

Chris: I guess you're right about the house thing... are you ever NOT right?

Julie: A massage sounds absolutely fantastic right about now, and especially one where I get to lie down with my belly in a hole! I'm just not sure I want to pay for one.

Jacob: Yeah, I'm more concerned with the child care thing than I am with a pediatrician. Considering we live in what seems to be the medical capital of Georgia, we should be able to find someone no problem. And on the child care, I did find a Web site for the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning that lists individuals and centers that are licensed under them - hopefully I'll be able to find a good one. And you had to return a breast pump? I know you can get new parts for it and all, but eww!

Courtney: Thanks for the good wishes!

Mickey: Yeah, Chris really has done so much already, but he's such a swell guy I'm sure he'll help me with as much of this as he can.

Everyone: I'm actually getting a good amount of sleep. What I meant was that I continue to be sleepy... like all day. I guess it's a third trimester thing, but it's all I want to do!

We actually only had to return the motor part of the pump. All the parts that were more personal stayed here. It was a good deal for the cost though and I was even told by several other mothers that the pumps at the health department were just as good or better than some of the ones you could reasonably purchase.

The Medela Pump in Style is a GREAT pump. I used it for six months, and it was a lifesaver! Just thought I'd throw my two cents in :) And don't freak out about the delivery too much - you'll be so excited, that you won't be nearly as worried as you think you will. I also wish you lived closer because I have an AWESOME ped for Jackson. Good luck with all the last minute preps. Feel free to email me with any questions - I just went through it all 7 months ago. Hard to believe!
