Color-Coated Career Path

I clicked on a link yesterday from MSN which brought me to CareerBuilder.com/CareerPath.com and this little quiz. So I took the quiz, which apparently tells you what type of job personality you have and some careers that may be good for you solely based on the colors you choose.

Here's what my results said:

BEST OCCUPATIONAL CATEGORY

You're an ORGANIZER

Key Words: Self-Control, Practical, Self-Contained, Orderly, Systematic, Precise, and Accurate

These conservative appearing, plotting-types enjoy organizing, data systems, accounting, detail, and accuracy. They often enjoy mathematics and data management activities such as accounting and investment management. Persistence and patience allows them to do detailed paperwork, operate office machines, write business reports, and make charts and graphs.

ORGANIZER CAREERS
Suggested careers are Administrator, Secretary, Printer, Paralegal, Building Inspector, Bank Cashier, Private Secretary, Statistician, Operations Manager, Financial Analyst, Bookkeeper, Medical Records Technician, Developer of Business or Computer Systems, Clerical Worker, Proofreader, Accountant, Administrative Assistant, Banker, Certified Public Accountant, Credit Manager, Store Salesperson, Actuary, Dental Assistant, Business Education Teacher, Food Service Manager, IRS Agent, Budget Analyst, and Underwriter.

ORGANIZER WORKPLACES
Your very careful, conscientious, conservative nature gives others the confidence to trust you with handling money and material possessions. Structured organizations that have well-ordered chains of command work best for you.

Suggested Organizer workplaces are large corporations, business offices, financial lending institutions, banks, insurance companies, accounting firms, and quality control and inspection departments.

2nd BEST OCCUPATIONAL CATEGORY

You're a RESEARCHER

Key Words: Independent, Self-Motivated, Reserved, Introspective, Analytical, and Curious

These investigative types gather information, analyze and interpret data, and inquire to uncover new facts. They have a strong scientific orientation, enjoy academic or research environments and prefer self-reliant jobs. Dislikes are group projects, selling, and repetitive activities.

Now, anyone who knows me would say I don't hate math or science but would also say that I would surely not enjoy a career in them (with the exception of being a CSI, but only if it were like the show and I know better). Sure, I'm an organizer, and I would say I'm a researcher as well. But if you read the description of organizer, it might actually be more accurate to say that it is describing my husband.

I was a little offended that it didn't say anything about creativity, then I reminded myself that this little test was based solely on colors I chose. If I went back and took it right now, I might not even pick the same colors.

Eh, oh well. If any of you feel like taking the quiz, I want to know what it says for you. But I wouldn't take it to heart. Apparently, I should be a bank teller instead of making pretty publications. Um yeah, how's about I not be bored out of my mind instead...

Well, you guessed it yesterday. The thing said I'm a "creator" primarily. The description it gives pretty well fits my job, though:

These original types place a high value on aesthetic qualities and have a great need for self-expression. They enjoy working independently, being creative, using their imagination, and constantly learning something new. Fields of interest are art, drama, music, and writing or places where they can express, assemble, or implement creative ideas.
CREATOR OCCUPATIONS
Suggested careers are Advertising Executive, Architect, Web Designer, Creative Director, Public Relations, Fine or Commercial Artist, Interior Decorator, Lawyer, Librarian, Musician, Reporter, Art Teacher, Broadcaster, Technical Writer, English Teacher, Architect, Photographer, Medical Illustrator, Corporate Trainer, Author, Editor, Landscape Architect, Exhibit Builder, and Package Designer.

I'm an organizer second.

Wait- So it goes through that whole color thing and then asks for your occupational information? That's bullshit.

But I'd say you're definitely an organizer.

Ha, I got organizer (totally off the mark for me) and persuader. You already know the organizer, but here's the persuader part:

"Key Words:
Witty, Competitive, Sociable, Talkative, Ambitious, Argumentative, and Aggressive These enterprising types sell, persuade, and lead others. Positions of leadership, power, and status are usually their ultimate goal. Persuasive people like to take financial and interpersonal risks and to participate in competitive activities. They enjoy working with others inside organizations to accomplish goals and achieve economic success."

I'll buy witty and argumentative. I like debate and I find myself funny. However, I'm only competitive in debating situations. Otherwise I'm the least competitive person I know. I'm far from sociable, and I'm only talkative in spurts. I'm also far from ambitious or aggressive. Does anyone think that either of these classifications has anything to do with me?

I've always thought you would make an excellent building inspector, Meaghan. Or an actuary. (I'm not even sure what an actuary is, so I'm obviously kidding.)

I was also a creator first and organizer second. I actually think that's pretty accurate for me.

Here's what I got. Some things fit, some don't...but I think that's the same for pretty much anyone! It's kinda like horoscopes. You can read anything and find yourself in it...it's called making connections...text to self...but the true crazies are the ones that change themselves to match the profile. Just a thought though.

Evidently I am Chris's job twin. I am a creator, then organizer. Every test I have ever taken (and everything I have ever wanted to do) has encourged me to pursue a job in PR. Too bad PR doesn't want me.
